Popular belief (I don’t know if there’s any scientific data confirming it) tells that people when they get older hang on to the music from their teens and early twenties. I’ve worked in a nursing home and the inhabitants were still crazy about the hit songs from the 40’s and early 50’s. This makes me wonder if by the time I’m 80-something the music coming from the nursing homes of the future will be different from now. Will it be house music, hip-hop and hardcore punk during tea time? Maybe an easy listening version of Nirvana’s “Rape me” while knitting in the rocking chair? Or will the future elderly criticize the music of that time claiming that Radiohead’s “OK computer” was the apotheosis of music?
